Lawyers serve a very important function in society, I've been told, but it is extraordinarily frustrating to get outrageous bills from lawyers who you know just
breezed through whatever simple task you needed them for. We are paying for all of their years of education to gain all of their knowledge and expertise so
they can perform relatively routine tasks that any of us could do if we could only understand the bizarre language lawyers speak. "Heretofore, the party
of the first part rendered assistance on a number of occasions to the aforementioned party of the first part," etc., etc.
Obviously, if somebody accused you of a crime that you did not do, you would call a lawyer, although I think that lawyer would be more comfortable defending
you if you did do the crime. But for routine legal procedures, many people who are fed up with lawyers and their bills have taken matters into their own hands
